suckin' wind... mar 13-22

o my.
since the marathon in seaside
i've been running a marathon at home too
easter baskets galore...
all other facets of life are sort of on the back burner
including this blog
but my sweet niece prompted me
with a sweet email
that simply asked,
'when are you putting more pictures on your blog?'
a question i can no longer ignore
aj, here are more pictures =)
one of the favorite pasttimes of a rainy day
{coat and boots are both hand-me-downs we LOVE}
this is our sneaky little kitty
she's about 11 years old
she lives outside
but she isn't called sneaky for nothin'!
she likes to come inside
she used to be indoor
then indoor/outdoor
now, just outdoor
but she recalls the indoor days
and likes to revisit them
albeit very sneakily
she's not comin' in for a snuggle
but if you catch her juuuuust right
 you can have one...
especially if you're 2 1/2...
for some reason
she runs from mike
she's ok with me coming for her
but a lot of times if giles goes for her
she freezes
and she is sooooo patient with him...
he pulls, tugs, grabs, drags and hugs
this sweet kitty more than she could possibly care for
but she just keeps letting him get her
it's a very odd partnership
but it works...
unless she's straight up not in the mood
then she's like lightening
and he's like a floodgate
he just doesn't get it...yet
if you need an onion
or some milk
or any other random ingredient you forgot at the store
just ask giles
he'll get it for you
he'll hop on the precor and
'run errands'
it's a favorite pasttime,
pjs are his choice of fashion for runnin' errands
and one of mommy's favorite things about giles is that he is so
he is very good {and even eager} to help me with some of the
household chores....
i keep meaning to video this
i would hate for him to ever forget how much he likes to help
i bet it will go something like this in our house..
'mom? i want to go do ____'
'giles, i want you to help me with ____ first, k?'
giles- 'sure mom, i was going to offer to help you with that anyway,
my friends will wait for me....'
me- 'thanks honey, you're the best, i can always count on you!'
{ahh...peace on earth, right?!?!}
free for all in the bathtub
supervised bath time on this particular night
was just enough time for me to clean out my purse!
i love multi-tasking...
i am not normally ok with this kind of mess
but i remembered that my friend jenny let her kids
destroy her kitchen one time when we were going somewhere
so i decided to just let go
and i made it!
my house didn't combust
it was a nice respite from thinking play has to be tidy
we both had so much fun sittin on the floor playing play-doh
i am so thankful for the little things
gilesy brought mommy some flowers
mikey & gilesy were all suited up
they were going to fertilize the yard in the rain
i have to acknowledge that which i wish i didn't
he takes after his daddy...
i hope he picks up on the good habits too...

early March 2010

this is how i dealt with the separation
i highly recommend it!
my parents kindly hosted giles for a week---
---like tuesday to tuesday
at their house last week
how lucky a girl am i?!?!
that is the only time mike & i have been away
from giles for more than a night or two since his birth
my emotions were all over the map
g.l.a.d. to be kid-free, like giddy glad
s.a.d. because i really, really like my kid
and i missed him!
he's really funny and he's really sweet
i like that around me on a daily basis
but he's really busy and sorta needy {two 1/2 year old style}
and i can go without that for 7 days, no problem!
but with skype
and knowing he was as happy as a pig in slop
i made it thru
mike and i had so many moments in his absence
of reflection...on the quiet, the funny things he does,
the things we could do without considering his needs---
like, i don't know, talking?!?!
walking down the hall--- at any time, speed, volume
-no regard to if his royal highness might be awakened?!?!
and most importantly...
we got lots-o-work done!
i painted baskets ninety to nothin'
which was my self-imposed goal
so that i coud go do
without guilt
or a care in the world
and i did
and i am so glad that i did
that weekend was cathartic!
13.1 miles with dear friends
the car ride to the beach
the day before the race
the eating out
the conversation
the support
the girl time
the time with new friends
and old ones
the weather...perfection
the challenge...met
the least you weren't alone in the pain!
so the 1/2 marathon at seaside
goes down in the books
an event to remember
a tradition begun
a big, big shout out of thanks to all who made that possible
mama & daddy
nina, steepen, nanajane, nix, ceeya, james
meg, lisa, amy, laura
stuart {especially stuart!!!} and casey
big hugs
deep appreciation
love, love and more love to you all...
and now we're back in the groove of mowing the deck in the rain
and squeezing the heck out of iree!

Mar 2

it has been a looong day
a great day...just got an early start
last night while reading & snuggling with giles
i let him know that didiFrank was coming to take him to memphis
for a week!!!
he remembered
he woke up and called for 'mama, daddy, come git me want mimiJanie and Frank'
mind like a trap!
he was precious this a.m.
he woke up at 5:30
and my daddy didn't get here until 11:45
we had lots of good, quality family time
it couldn't have been more perfect
here giles is making his eggs for breakfast
{don't worry, we're very close by}
he felt like a very big boy
and he made some tasty eggies!!!
and here is my precious daddy
he's one of my very most favoritest people on the planet
and today he self-lessly {that's how he is...totally self-less}
drove 4 hours to get baby giles
only to turn right back around and drive 4 hours back
and keep him for a week!
{and on his 71st birthday, no less!!!}
he and mama
{who worked all day & stayed behind to welcome them home}
will have a fuuullll week
fortunately his cousins are on spring break
and he's the entertainment!
he's going to be loving that!!!
i wish you could hear him say 'cousin'
he really pronounces the 's'
so cute
i knew the birthday lunch needed to be simple and quick
so we enjoyed some chips and salsa
chicken spaghetti
and twice-dropped cupcakes
{and the cupcakes weren't the only thing to drop...
while shopping for them, giles got a little excited...
he fell out of the grocery cart trying to reach cupcakes...
he gets sort of weak and slobbery around confections such as these...
makes rash decisions...
has poor judgement...}
dropped first by mikey, in the parking lot
then pulled off the counter, completely upside-down
so, prior to plating the cupcakes
they required a little refrosting
and they tasted just fine...
kinda devine, in fact
and here, daddy has his thinking cap on
the changing table was full of giles' travel gear
 but the diaper needed changing...
so to the crib they went man...
it truly is the little things...
ask any woman {especially a wife/mom}
it's the truth
it's actually gospel

Feb 28, no Mar 1...ugh.

i don't get why-o-why blogging has challenged me so lately
so, mar 1 came and went
no picture
it was a good day
normal early evening dinner stuff
introduced game of 'memory'
man, it has changed a-lot since i was a kid!
but we enjoyed it
and then there was reading and snuggling
-my favorite part of this day, hands down
it was deep, still snuggling
rare and priceless
but it did get pics yesterday
mike's brother had a birthday earlier in the month
so we headed up to yellow creek road for a little family party
and a birthday party is big fun for the toddler
he's the youngest
and he loves all of the attention
loves it!
here he is with ginger
she's about the 8th boxer the family has had
'is it good, tony?' -said in the purest, sweetest, sincerest
toddler voice you have ever heard...
all of the adults were talking and then we realized that giles was quiet
over the counter/island we could see this
and once the chatter died down a bit
that is what we heard
sooooo stinkin' sweet
love that boy!
and here is cousin duncan
he's the cousin on mike's side
closest in age to giles...
he is so sweet to giles
he makes sure he's happy and has toys to play with
he even sent giles home with
an entirely too-close-to-real size firetruck
but he's enjoying the heck out of it
sirens and all...
