Gobble! Gobble!

good morning!
and i do meaning morning, it's only 5:30
and i have been up since before 4!
i am 38 today!
and it's thanksgiving-
with lots to be thankful for...
on our way to see my family
we passed a 'church sign'
'count your blessings,
not your burdens'
and i think this is a good philosophy
because if you really think about it
aren't we all greatly blessed?
and don't you need the burdens
to see just how blessed you really are?
it definitely keeps me in check...
so since september's post
we've had halloween
as a football player
and went to trunk or treat
where we met up with classmate
and alabama cheerleader, maggie
 rode a pony
 enjoying a spidey snack
 decorating our pumpkin
and heading to alabama indoor practice facility
to have a little halloween fun!
jack and giles had a big time
giles loved playing soccer with the alabama girls soccer players
and getting his picture taken with the dance team
he had a great time running
in his school fundraiser
he ran all 30 laps!!!
i was worried about how he'd do
with me there...
it was the first activity of the school year
and you just never know how it'll go
i was worried that having mommy there
might be a distraction,
but he just grinned every lap he saw me
it was so much fun to be there with him...
he's really into cereal and milk,
which makes for a really easy meal
for which i am so grateful!
giles enjoyed being star student
mrs mccullough showcased
fun facts and pictures
about giles
he had nooooo problem
being the star of the show
for the week!

 for thanksgiving
giles was a pilgrim
who ate alphabet vegetable soup
with his friends
o, and he had a juice box
just like the pilgrims had,
right?
so cute...
 and despite the camo,
giles is having fun at cypress inn
with his cousin katie
after she was crowed beauty queen
at her beauty walk
he loves katie!
 and his cousin duncan
and 'talkin' on the phone
while waiting for dinner...
more pics to come soon!!!

Sept update....

just checking in for a little update
the last two posts have been fun giveaways...
still have yet to win one of those kinds
of fun giveaways!
o well.
so in sept we have had some fun activity
with the highlight being a week's stay at
the beach club in gulf shores
{THANK YOU SISTER!!!}
it was a treat to stay in a
'condo castle' for a few days and get away from it all...
but before we get to that...
it was time for giles' 3 year check up
that is a visit with no shots...
unless your parents decide you need the flu shot
that requires you get the shot at the first visit
and come for a FOLLOW UP shot on a SECOND visit!
so much for looking forward to a no shot dr visit...
daddy and giles waiting on dr buettner
mommy getting in a little love while waiting on the dr
giles was a big ol trooper when it came to the shots
he had the most shocked expression for about a split second
and then he cried for another split second
and then he was excited to have a sticker on his boo-boo
{that would be a kiddie band-aid, but whatever! it's a sticker!}
we were so proud of him...
for stats sake: right around 50% on weight and 75% on height
he weighed 34 pounds and was 38.5in tall
now we just need to find us a dentist...

so... having a chance to head to the beach = happy family!
on the road... {trust me, this was fleeting}
and would you believe that we actually
had more room in our car than we usually do???
heading to the beach!
since we were heading to the beach and
beach = happy kid
i was able to bribe a quick pic =)
but it wasn't long til we had kicked off our shoes
and had our toes in the sand!

there was a lot of playing in the sand

and in the pool...

and back to the beach again...
where oddly enough, this was a very common siting...
{edited to add: when i was writing, there was a picture here
of a tractor heading down the beach... sorry, i must've deleted it
before publishing...going to try again...}

i assume it is oil related...
breakfasts were yummy @ the beach
here is french toast casserole

and here are apple pie bites...
the beach definitely made us happy!!!
we relaxed and watched t.v.
and even had a modeling session for mommy!!!
on the way home we stopped to eat lunch
we had cooked in all week,
so this was a fun treat!
fairhope, al
if you haven't been,
you need to go...
the houses there are precious-
like each and every one
it is a little piece of paradise!
a precious town---
thriving downtown,
fantastic {looking} shopping
{we'll save shopping for another trip!}
and awesome food!
we parked ourselves at
Fly Creek Cafe and Marina
waterside, colorful, delicious seafood and not crowded
it could not have been more perfect!
it was for sure the perfect end to a perfect week...

and in conclusion to this extremely long post...
today is picture day for my little
so i took one in case by the time he actually smiles for the camera
he's cut his clothing {that's another post altogether},
or decorated himself in marker,
or used his clothing as a napkin...
by golly, when he *started* the day
he looked CUTE!

a thought sent...

at a most meaningful time...
so many people have struggles
some big, some small
some come and go
some seem to overstay their welcome
but in time
and with faith
life that deals you lemons
shows you how to make lemonade...
if you didn't know about lemons
and someone just handed you a bag one day
and you gave up
trying to figure out what they could be used for
you would surely miss
the enormous relief they can bring
when on a really hot day
you get to enjoy the lemonade
you could have felt yourself burdened with the bag at first
someone handing you something else you just didn't think you needed
but
if you just relax, let things sit for a bit
and realize that you are not given
ANYTHING
without purpose
it will help you appreciate the day
when the hard stuff has passed
and you can sit back and relax
and drink your hard-earned lemonade...
and those are the thoughts that stormed my brain
after i read about the pencil...
who knew?
pencils and lemonade
inspire deep thoughts...
ha ha ha =)
ENJOY

The Parable of the Pencil
The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box. There are 5 things you need to know, he told the pencil, before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be.

ONE
: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone's hand.

TWO: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil.

THREE: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.

FOUR: The most important part of you will always be what's inside.

AND FIVE
: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.

The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.

Now imagine you are the Pencil and you will become the best person you can be.

ONE
: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.

TWO: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems, but you'll need it to become a stronger person.

THREE: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.
FOUR: The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside.

AND FIVE
: On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to do your duties. By understanding and remembering, let us proceed with our life on this earth having a meaningful purpose in our heart.
We are just like the pencil. We can make a difference in our lives and in the lives of the people around us. Don't ever underestimate what you have the power to do!

10 days...not bad...

last post was 10 days ago...
if i can just keep up this pace...
since our last visit
giles has started a new school year
with a brand new school!
with a switch such as this
comes much apprehension
{for moi}
but the transition has been like buttah!
cutie went to his open house and met
mrs mccullough
and even gave her some cookies!
and met new friends to play kitchen with...
and even did a little sink repair
and smiled a little for the camera
he knows right where to put his 'pack-pack' in the a.m.
and just really seems pleased as punch
about the whole thing....
he even kept a smile on his face
after he bumped his head walking
out the front door for pictures!
so, here he is!
gilesy on his very first day of pre-k3
new lunch box
new 'pack-pack'
new bbtn outfit
potty-trained and eager for the day!!!

now...posting this is good for me!
seeing as how i woke up at 2am
FOR THE SECOND TIME
IN AS MANY WEEKS
with a another stinkin stomach bug.
what gives?
see you sooner!

really? a month?!?!

so, actually, it's been more than a month
since my last update...
hard to believe THAT, for sure!
i think i feel guilty blogging sometimes
because there is certainly ALWAYS
something i *should* be doing
that is clearly not getting done
while i blog away....
but right now, i happen to know
four little people who would like to see
pictures of the big weekend we just had...
to help them anticipate a little better
about the really cool weekend we're about to have
this coming weekend....
so cousins...for you...
a birthday recap...
from the birthday boy thrice celebrated
in his third year of life
{phew! i just had to google 'thrice'
thought it was "a-go" but just wanted to make sure...
before i embarrass myself in front of all of blogland...}
 the beginning...we had no idea...

like really, ...*no* idea
that THIS could take SO long!!!
{mama & daddy, SO cute...love this picture of y'all...}
but it was worth every second of assembly
mike and his youngest brother chris spent a
decent chunk of time on friday
with mike putting finishing touches on it on
saturday and sunday
so...if contemplating assembling one of these...
prepare!
you really can't overestimate
we're talking details here folks.
LOTS of them.
in the heat. with one "undegreed" engineer
trying to follow some other "engineer's" directions
'better ways' were being discussed at almost every turn =)
but, alas, directions were followed and assembly took place
and someone is one happy little boy...

thank you to my precious family who bought this for giles
for his bday...he has already logged a LOT of hours on it!
along with playing outside on the new play set
there was also cake to be eaten!
this cake was delicious!
it was made by it takes the cake bakery in tuscaloosa
-i loved the design! it was a fun pirate...not too scary
and he was awfully sweet too! {ha, ha}
this picture has become a tradition...
giles with his oldest cousin lauren
she'll be a freshman at the university of alabama this fall
every year at the birthday party they get a pic just like this one
see?
and there is one more, but on another computer...
he loves that la-la
and in closing, we sent the guests home with
their very own cannonballs
{chocolate malt balls}
in their very own pirate bandanna...

i do plan to come back soon with more birthday recap...
thank you to all who made this so much fun!!!

on the board!

and when you say,
say it like you would hear a conductor say
'all aboard!'
because that is what giles thinks conductors say
'on the board!'
and he was pleased to express this sentiment
all 45+ miles home from swimming lessons today...

i know i already blogged about swimming lessons
but we signed up for a second session
we love coach anne
and i knew giles would definitely benefit from them
so, we started back today...
it was such a nice change,
going...knowing what to expect.
i think we both liked that, a lot.
here is giles practicing floating on his back...
he's almost completely floating,
just using coach anne's shoulder to rest his head a little...
but then she eased him right into the pool
and he floated alone to the count of 8!!!
when i try this with him,
he looks like windmill...
the arms and legs are a flailin'!
i hope they work on floating a lot this week
and that our practice sessions go better...

i can't believe father's day came and went
and i really didn't get a shot of just giles and mikey together...
we went out to dinner
giles did a little chop-stick'n
i was pretty impressed!
the fork was only there for me...
i would have moments of feeling sorry for him,
only getting about 4-5 grains of rice at a time...
but he did great!
he thoroughly enjoyed all of the different foods
he even was ok with some spicy tuna sushi,
although i think the seaweed wrap was a tad
hard for him to maneuver - he left it alone.
we made daddy a little happy, with our own hands...
not my own words,
but definitely my thoughts...
{you can google 'childrens hands' and find the poem}
since it's been awhile since we've done some bloggin',
i will add in a bit of what else we've had fun doing...

i took giles to see his very first movie theater movie
hotel for dogs...
we lasted a little over an hour.
all went well, except for the game of keep away.
he found about 4-5 rows at the very front of the theatre
unoccupied,
well, except for him!
he'd run up one and down the other
pretty much directly opposite of wherever i was...
i knew that God's purpose here was to make
some other moms realize that they aren't alone-
right? i was just the lucky one that got to show them!
we've all been there...
kids embarrassing as all get-out
{never typed that expression before...}
ugh.
finally i just decide to guard to door out of the theatre
and pray that he wouldn't head for the emergency exit...
fortunately, i was spared.
at some point, he decided to head back to the seats...
not too much later, i decided we'd head for the car!

one of my dearest pals ever's
little boy jack turned 3!
he and giles are in the same class at school.
so we headed out to jack's party
one pretty {hot} saturday...
the kids had a blast!
i can't believe this is the best shot i took
of the two of them, but it appears to be...

giles found a most stellar hiding place.
he was so stinkin proud of himself!
we played hide n seek for a little while
that a.m.
he'd be under the pool and ask me to look for him---
total covert operations here,
let me tell ya!

hard at work, thinkin...
sportin daddy's yard 'hat'
or 'do-rag'
he sat here for about 5 minutes,
just hanging out...
it was super cute.

he's a BIG fan of helping daddy in the yard...
we'll see how long that lasts...

giles... one day, hopefully you'll look back at this blog.
please know--- about 2 months
before you turned three...
i can't explain it, but you have 'come alive' more than ever!
you are on the G-O, at all times!
 you say the funniest things!
you call the toilet, the too-let... cracks me up everytime!
when i tell you something you don't like,
you give it right back to me
{don't worry, i am working on this... it's called backtalk---
not recommended...}
you spend more time than you'd like in time out
but you are quick to apologize and let me know you want to be nice
one of my favorite things you do
is take my face in both of your hands and give me a kiss...
it is really super sweet...
when we are driving and saying prayers as we go,
you listen and at the end, you always give a solid 'amen!'
everyone is your 'friend', and i mean everyone!
you already know left from right,
you jump off the diving board and have no fear of water
{a little might be good... but we're not tellin' ya that!}
you climb in your crib, you climb out
but at this point, you don't climb out when you wake up
from a nap or a good night's sleep
not sure when you'll figure that out...
hopefully not too soon!
you potty trained in about 3 weeks...
pretty hassle free... accidents happen,
but not very often--- way to go!
you are SUPER smart!
i hope you find a way to make the world a better place because of it!
i love you gilesy...
#1 son {your daddy says this with an chinese accent...it's too funny!}
